The
Imbalance
of
Ego

When the Aspect of Sentience
overwhelms
all other the other forces that produce Human consciousness, the result
is Ego. Ego is the overblown sense of
personal self-importance, which diminishes the Aspect
of Awe and the Aspect of Wonder. As they are lessened within the circle
of of a person's life, so are those aspects of consciousness that depend
upon them.
Without Awe, a Person has no sense of proportion.
Such a person believes that he/she is large, powerful and important.
Without Wonder, a person fails to sense the world
around oneself. Such a Person comes to believe that he/she is in control
of the world and can do with it as he or she might like.
The Precept of Obey
Laws is diminished. The Precept of Obey Laws depends upon the
conjunction of Sentience and Awe. The importance of this precept is
diminished because the Aspect of Awe is
lessened in proportion to its importance. When Sentience becomes Ego,
then the Person begins to feel above the law.
In the same way, the Precept
of Seek Knowledge depends on the
conjunction between Sentience and Wonder. The importance of this precept
is diminished because the Aspect of Wonder is lessened in proportion to
its importance. As Sentience turns to ego, the Person begins to believe
that he/she controls the world and its wonders.
The Precept of Be
Nice is virtually extinguished. The Precept of Be Nice depends on
the conjunction between Awe and Wonder. Both of these Aspects have been
diminished. As Sentience turns to Ego, the Person feels that everything
he or she says or does is more important than what others say or do. |
