Obey
all Just Laws,
Regulations and Rules
The Third
Precept is Obey all Just Laws, Regulations and Rules. This Precept is
formed by the conjunction of the Aspects of
Sentience and Awe.
Sentience is
the Aspect of Human consciousness that is our source of knowledge of ourselves and our surroundings.
Sentience is the seat of knowledge, and the abode of our memories. By
itself, Sentience does not recognize fear.
Awe is the Aspect of Human consciousness that is our awareness of the universe and of our
powerlessness within it. Awe is our source of fear. By itself, Awe has
no capacity for reason. Thus, Awe can engender a fearfulness that can
incapacitate the human mind.
Knowledge, as provided by the Aspect of
Sentience, is the only way to control the unreasoning fears that derive
from Awe. At the same time, fear is needed to spur knowledge into
action.
Sentience regulates unreasoning fear by creating laws, rules and regulations to control
that which can be controlled. Awe stimulates Sentience to find new and
better ways to control the uncontrollable. Sentience seeks to extend that control into the
realms of the chaos.
The Precept of Obey Laws is formed by
the conjunction of the Aspects of Awe and of Sentience. When Red and
Blue
are mixed, the resulting color is Magenta. Therefore, the Precept of
Obey Laws is depicted as a Magenta circle. |
